Power Career Intern Program (Darlington CT)
This is an intern position established through the Power Careers Program and only students who have been nominated by their respective school will be considered for the Power Careers Program.
Job Description
The Duke Energy Power Careers Program is designed to provide a student with hands on experience in the daily operations and maintenance of fossil/hydro generating facilities in Duke Energy's North Carolina and South Carolina territory. Students seeking a 2 year AAS degree from an accredited community college in one of the following degreed curriculums will be considered: Electric Power Production Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronic Technology (Electrical Systems Technology), Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, General Engineering Technology, and Mechatronics.
Students must be considered full-time under community college requirements. Students will work approximately 10 weeks (40 hrs. per week) during the summer semester and up to 20 hrs. per week during each Fall/Spring semester.

Special Requirements
Ability to wear all required safety equipment and work in confined spaces.
Ability to pass respiratory physical and wear all personal protective equipment.
Ability to attend various training classes.
Safety Behaviors and Standards
All students are required to adhere to safety, environmental, and Code of Business Ethics policies as directed by Duke Energy.
Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb ladders, work in extreme heat or cold, walk/work on grating surfaces at extreme heights.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work at heights and from suspended work platforms.
Required to work in all areas of the power plant, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity.
Required to climb ladders and stairs at various heights, enter vessels or equipment with limited access, walk, stoop, lift, bend, crawl and/or squat.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications
Student must be enrolled in or planning to pursue a two-year AAS degree as stated above.
Cumulative grade point average (GPA) should be a 3.0 out of 4.0 from High School or Community College. A valid transcript must be uploaded as an attachment to this application)
Student workers must be 18 years of age by June 15th, 2015 and possess a valid driver's license.
Applicant must clear all background reviews and drug screening.
Applicant must be successful with the completion of all standard pre-employment test(s).
Only those students nominated by their respective school will be considered for application to the Power Careers Program.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
